IT wing was established on District level at the time of devolution in 2001. The main object of the wing was to introduce computer technology for govt. offices. For this purpose, the first stage was to give basic computer knowledge to all the govt. employees so that they can help in govt. plan of computerization of all the departments. For this purpose, a training programme was introduced as Basic IT Literacy Programme for Govt. Employees. Under this programme, about 530 employees of various district govt. departments have acquired computer training. In the month February/March 2006, twenty nine employees of Prison department have completed their training at the National College of Computer Science. Moreover, 73 employees of various departments have participated in the final test after completing their training.
The IT wing undertakes a process of continuous service improvement utilising a structure of nationally recognised best practices for IT Service Management. IT wing has implemented several parts of this process structure to achieve efficiencies in its services, and improve the services provided to our employees. While some departments have computing facilities for their staff most of the services provided by IT department are available to any staff member.
